Celebrate twenty years of wonderful music-making with Reading’s Aldworth Philharmonic, who perform with the full orchestra having made several previous appearances at the Fringe with chamber ensembles. Reading’s heritage is celebrated with Michael Betteridge’s ‘Biscuits, Beer & Bulbs’, before Reading Youth Orchestra join APO on stage for the world premiere of Caitlin Harrison’s ‘From Dawn to Dreams’, commissioned as part of the ‘Adopt a Music Creator’ project run by Making Music, in partnership with Sound and Music. The concert ends with Rachmaninoff’s symphonic tour de force, with dark storm clouds, wild dancing, passionate longing and finally, a spectacular musical equivalent of a celebratory firework display!Betteridge - Biscuits, Beer & Bulbs
Harrrison - From Dawn to Dreams (with Reading Youth Orchestra - world premiere)
Rachmaninoff - Symphony No. 2
The Pantry Café will be open before the concert until 7pm, serving sandwiches, jacket potatoes, soup & cakes. Plus a selection of hot and cold drinks.
From our twin town of Düsseldorf we welcome pianist Frederike Möller, who specialises in exploring the fascinating sound world of toy pianos. She will perform works by composers associated with Reading and Düsseldorf, supported by players from APO.
Free to ticket holders.
Doors open at 6.15pm.
APO really love classical music and reckon that the sight and sound of an live orchestra is something to behold. So, to encourage people who’ve never been to an orchestral concert to give it a try, we’ve set up our Concert Virgin scheme – offering free tickets to newcomers to classical music *.
How the scheme works:
* This scheme obviously relies on the goodwill of our audience not to bankrupt the orchestra! Please do not take advantage of the orchestra by applying for the Concert Virgin scheme if you’re not a genuine Concert Virgin! Thank you!
